Entering the world of Retrofit Assessment

The government is keen to hit net zero by 2050 and has already identified that improvements to existing homes are required in order to achieve this. The introduction of the Green Homes Grant Scheme as well as a new specification for whole house retrofit projects (PAS 2035) has led to new demand for retrofit professionals.

About the role

Similar to Domestic Energy Assessors (DEAs), Retrofit Assessors will visit a property and collect data and information which will include a report of the property’s energy performance, condition and occupancy. This information will be used as part of a retrofit improvement plan which is put together by a Retrofit Coordinator.

Trained Retrofit Assessors are set to be at the forefront of one of the most exciting changes the energy industry has seen in years. Demand for fully accredited Retrofit Assessors is expected to be high, so those with the skills and who are qualified are likely to be sought after.

Getting Involved

The Retrofit Assessor role is recommended for Domestic Energy Assessors (DEAs) who will already have relevant knowledge of energy assessment in existing residential buildings. The government funded training offering combines both the Retrofit Assessor, and Domestic Energy Assessor course. The combined offering will see individuals gain knowledge of domestic energy assessment first before they embark on the Retrofit Assessor course.

Government Funded Training

To become a Retrofit Assessor you will first need to train as Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA). Those who are currently unemployed will qualify to train as both a DEA and Retrofit Assessor for just a fraction of the cost (SAVE £1644.19).
